Exclamation ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect

    Hi there DBA's

    This is kinda urgent.
    Can't connect to database.
    get the folowing error:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect
    descriptor

    1. I get a response when I do a TNSping to the DB
    2. Can't connect to the same DB.

Checked TNSnames, sqlnet and listener.ora files?
Started / stopped Database and listener.
    restarted box?

    Nothing works.

    Please Help!

The service name in your client's tnsnames.ora file does not match with the listener on the server.
    Check that it's the same...
And then you'll be able to connect.

What is your Global Database name in Listener.ORA?
    It should be DEV.ZA.TISCALI.COM

Turn on logging and tell us the result !

Use the net8 utility on the client to configure it there and test it from the net8 utility.
