Ora-12203 Tns:unable To Connect To Destination

    Hi,

I have installed oracle 8i (SID = ORACLE) in the home "oracle/ora81", and the oracle dev6i in the home "oradev6i", therefore in two different oracle_homes.

I have copied the file tnsnames.ora from oracle/ora81/network/admin TO oradev6i/net80/admin

when I try to connect to database from forms builder with the sid "ORACLE" I have the followong message :

ORA-12203 TNS:UNABLE TO CONNECT TO DESTINATION

    what's the problem please ?

    thanks...

do lsnrctl status: if you get the following message

    TNS-12541: TNS:no listener
    TNS-12560: TNSrotocol adapter error
    TNS-00511: No listener
32-bit Windows Error: 61: Unknown error
then your listener is not up. goto services and start your listener.

yes mkumarnk but the tnsnames.ora exists also in oracle/ora81/network/admin, I dont' delete it, I just copied it to the path of developer (oradev6i/net80/admin) OTHERWISE I would have the error :ORA12154 COULD NOT RESOLVE SERVICE NAME.

thanks jlakhani, but How can I start listener, I am on WIN98 not on WINNT??

    another suggestion ???
