    Question

    Folks,

    Database is archive log mode.
One datafile from tools tablespace deleted while installing a s/w.
Now the database needs to be set in non archivelog mode.

When trying to set it nonarchivelog mode get error related to the datafile that it needs receovery apply all the archive logs. The archive logs unavailable as the instance is a test instance.

If I backup the controlfile and modify the controlfile to noarchivelog mode, set the datafile as offline and create the control files will the database be set in nonarchivelog mode.

    Please help.
    Thanks.

I think you can 'offline drop' the datafile after taking the tablespace offline. Then you can shut down , take a backup and restart the database normally, set it to noarchivelog or whatever mode you want.
