    Installing ORacle 9i on Unix

    Hi Guys,
    I am a newbie to Unix. My sys admin have already installed oracle on Unix Solarix box and he is gone. Now, being an Oracle Dba on Nt, i need to configure it. what are the steps should i follow to create an instance and database? I know i am asking you all too much. please bare with me.

    If Oracle is already installed then run the Database configuration assistant and it'll guide you thru for creating the database/instance.

    make sure your kernel parameters are set, which you will need root access to change and reboot your server.

    Make sure ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID are set. Then you can use the configuration assistant, or create the database yourself (no service to create on UNIX)

    Probably also need root to create your directory structure

    One more thing, learn vi
