Question Locally managed tablespaces: when and when not?

I am considering using this feature (locally managed tablespaces) but I get suspicious of all the positive things I read about it.. .
Can anyone tell me whether there are downsides to it?
And when should you definitely consider it, and when definitely not?
    Thanks in advance!

When should you think about it? When you database is => 8i

    When not.. DB < 8i.

    Don't be suspicious....

Probably the only DOWNSIDE of LMT's is wasted space (tiny though.. considering the cost of disk space these day), when a segment doesn't fully occupy a uniform extent. But this is MINIMAL compared to the issues of fragmentation when UN-unform extents are used in DMT. Also, users are unable to create "un-desirable" sized extents.

I'm tagging somebody else now, cause I'm sure there are many others with a list of benefits. Perform a search on LMT's in these forums, ther's been plenty of discussions about it.

Thanks! I agree that that tiny disadvantage outweighs the advantages..

I will do the recommended search, thanks again!

Being suspicious is just being a good DBA. However, in this case there's not much to worry about. LMT's are one of the greatest features of Oracle 8i IMHO. There are no significant drawbacks and I use them for everything except the SYSTEM tablespace.
