Oracle 8.1.7 instalation/Windows 2000 Server

Os:Vindows 2000 Server /4 GB RAM
The Boot.ini file has been modified (fastdetect /3GB)
Oracle 8.1.7

I have set the the :
shared_pool size=1610612736
db_block_buffers=100000
I could not create the DB unless I have decreased this values.
It looks that cannot allocate more than 2G memory to the Oracle Server .

Please advise as soon as you can.

Well that "looks like" is a fact for Windosss so it means that you've spent that 2G extra if you were using it just for the db. Unless you'd want to install another software on that machine..

The point is i HAVE TO allocate more that 2Gb.

On Windows NT an Oracle instance runs as a single process, this process is a standard Win32 application that is able to make memory allocations from the 2GB virtual address space. All memory allocations made by all user connections and background threads have to fit into 2GBs including global allocations such as the buffer cache.

i think we cannot allocate more than 2GB to standard win 2000 server.

You have to have :
Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

Than was the solution in my case
