Restore from Cold Backup
Hi
I have recently started working with Oracle 9i (WinNT)
I performed a cold backup on this database (server#1) of datafiles, control files and redo log files. I did not include any parameter files.
I have now installed Oracle 9i on another server (server#2) with the same database name. To get database that was on server#1 to server#2, can I simply copy the datafiles and control files to server#2.
I realise, by reading these forums, that I should have also copied certain parameter files. ie. init.ora.
However, I haven't found too much information on going the other way - from cold backup data to new server.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It's not neccesary to include init.ora file in backup plan. But, copying init.ora helps when you do cloning.

Thanks for the reply.
Is cloning done in OEM, SQLPLUS ??

The cloning process is fairly manual using sqlplus, once you have copied all the data files to the new server you simply need create the control files for the new location.
It's been done several times on these forums , try searching for "cloning" for more detail instructions.

Or use RMAN for online duplicating.
