The first row in v$version will show whether it's standard or enterprise edition.

As for upgrading you simply need to do the following:

    1. Take a backup and stop database
    2. De-install the standard edition software or install enterprise edition in a new home
    3. Modify you "oratab" file to point to the new home
    4. Start your database and run "catalog.sql" and "catproc.sql"

    oratab?

    I'm running 8.1.5 on NT4 . Heres my v$version info ...

    Oracle8i Release 8.1.5.0.0 - Production
    PL/SQL Release 8.1.5.0.0 - Production
    CORE Version 8.1.5.0.0 - Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 8.1.5.0.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 3.4.0.0.0 - Production

    oratab? Is that Unix?

I suppose we have to buy Enterprise edition (or at least upgrade our licensing and support)?
