    Rman backup of standby database?

Can rman be used to backup a standby database?

Never tried, I hope it should work when you open it in read mode.

Sure, of course. You should backup datafiles and archivelogs on standby site, while controlfile should be backed up on the primary database.

Thanks for your input. Backup does work, I have to admit. However , restore fails with message that my controlfile is a backup controlfile. I have tried to backup controlfile on a primary side by
ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO .... and use this one to mount a database and run restore job and I got same error:

ORA-01649 operation not allowed with a backup controlfile

Cause: An attempt is being made to perform a command that does not make sense when the control file is a restored backup.

Action: Wait until after the database has been opened and try again.

    Any ideas?
