Hi all,
I have installed Oracle8i Client on my machine.I am very new to this field.I have started configuring my oracle client. I opened up the Net 8 Assistant. I got a UI in which i clicked on the Service Name and then from Edit menu I choose create. It then prompted me for Net service Name. I enterred "Client". then I selected the Protocol TCP/IP, entered the host Name of the computer where database is stored. Port 1521.Then I selected the SID and entered APPS. I then tested the connection giving the correct username and password.It said connection test successed.
But when I open SQL Plus and try to connect with the same username & password and service name "client" it gives the error . Please let me know what the Problem is ...or do I need to configute any other thing..

when I do tnsping jaya I get the error message :
TNS-03505 :Failed to resolve name

hi..
did u said FINISH at the end of ur client configuration..bcz it makes the data to be stored in $oracle-home/network/admin/tnsnames.ora file in ur oracle home dir.
do check that file for ur JEYA alias entry...
