Ok, I've seen this question asked a few times in other forums....
What statement about RMAN w/ a database in NOARCHIVELOG mode is true?
a) RMAN requires a recovery catalog
b) RMAN supports multi-level incremental backups
c) RMAN is compatible w/ Enterprise Backup utility
d) RMAN only works in conjunction w/ a tape subsystem.
We can automatically rule out A and D, but RMAN does support incremental backups and its compatible with Enterprise Backup Manager. So my questions is, what's the "Best" answer here?
Thanks in advance....
Randy

Not sure but I guess with 9i they have either already discontinued backward compatibility to EBU or they are intending so in future releases, so the answer should be (B)

Randy,
This question was on my exam this past Monday. C is incorrect according to the exam cram book. I was torn between A or B and can't remember which on I picked or if I got it correct.
Good luck,
Marc

C is incorrect (I think it is written somewhere in the backupnrecover pdf doc). Therefor B is correct.

My first answer was B as well. But after reviewing exam notes I found C to be correct as well. However, the ILT manual does not mention anything about RMAN being compatible w/ Enterprise Backup utility. What is the backupnrecover pdf doc?
Thanks for the reply.

The question asks
"What statement about RMAN w/ a database in NOARCHIVELOG mode is true?"
C is NOT true as stated in Oracle8i Recovery Manager Users Guide and Reference" page 1-5
This PDF can be downloaded from OTN.
AFAIK NOARCHIVELOG mode is irrelevant in terms of RMAN incremental backups, that is to say incremental backups can always be performed regardless of the archiving mode.
Therefore correct answer is B
Good luck for the exam.
Nick
