Thread: Dumb but simple question i hope

    Hi all

    in the network\Admin directory my Oracle home directory
    we have the listener ,sqlnet and tnsnames.ora files together with these we do have a lot of files with names like

    listener98062411PM2545.bak
    listener9807228AM0120.bak

    tnsnames98060810AM2548.bak
    tnsnames9806197AM3316.bak

    sqlnet98062612AM3319.bak
    sqlnet9807228AM0120.bak

    Waht are these files? are these required for database operation ? can i delete then ?

    If you use an assistant to modify these files, existing files get copied to backup (.bak). You can manually edit the files, and there are pro's and con's about doing it.

    Can you get rid of them? Yes. Should you? That's up to you.
