    Hi,
Everytime I import the database and export it back, I have noticed around 20% increase in Tablespace size. Is this normal? Or am I doing something wrong?

With this increase in Tablespace size with every Import/export, The datafile soon gets filled up. I am using Oracle 8.1.7.2.5 on windows 2000.

    Thanks

    Dilip.

Are you doing a FULL import and export?
FULL will create tablespaces as specified in the export.
Or are you talking about the used space in the tablespace?

Thanks hanky. No its user level exp/imp. My database has single user who owns all the database objects. Before importing the exported data, I am droping the user with cascade option.

I am using this export/import method for my backup and restore. I know, exp/imp is not good for backup and restore functionality, but for now, I have to use import/export utility.

The problem is If I do export and import of data 8-9 times without even entering any data, the tablespace gets filled up(I mean the used space keeps getting bigger). With full export/import, I did not face this problem.
