login error

i have got a strange problem
when i try to login as usera in the database i get the following error

ERROR:
ORA-12535: TNSperation timed out


Enter user-name: ERROR:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied


but if i login as userb and then use conn userb/passwd it connects fine the password i am using in both the cases are same

please give your suggestion

Intermittent ora-12535 is usually an indication that the requested connection could not be completed within the timeout period specified by the CONNECT_TIMEOUT parameter in the LISTENER.ORA file

in this case that is not the problem because this is only happenng with one userid and it is happening every time

did u check the log files and alert files for any ora-600 errors?

Are user-A and User-B on the same client?
Are you behind a firewall?
Are you running the database server on the MTS mode?
Can you ping from the client(s)?
Did you check your tnsnames.ora file on the client?

i am trying to login from the database server itself ie from the solaris box where the database server is running and the database is not running in mts mode but i did not check the alert log i wil check and let u know
