    Hi,
If it is realted to Oracle,Oracle runs in different ways on different O/S.In Unix ,every background process such as DBWR,LGWR,CKPT,ARCH etc is a process and is uniquely identified by ora__ whereas on NT there is only 1 thread which runs as oracle.exe.All the background processes are linked to this thread. Each Oracle background "process" (e.g. LGWR, DBWR, ARCH, etc.), and each dedicated server "process" is a thread of the master ORACLE process on Windows NT.
