Thread: Urgent: Oracle 7.3.4 Question

    In version 7.3.4 Why would you have a Rollback segment on the System Tablespace Vs. an RBS tablespace?? This question was asked by 1 dba to me and I couldnt answer it...

    its best to group segment types into their own tablespace for performance and manageability

    system tablespace should only be used for the data dictionary

    Why would you? Because you have no choice - one rollback segment (named SYSTEM) is allways online and must reside in system tablespace, it can't live anywhere else. And this is not 7.3.4 specific, it's for all releases.

    For other rollback segments though there is a simple answer to the above question: You simply don't want any other rollback segments that are in use to be in system tablespace, they should be in separated tablespace(s) dedicated only to rollback segments.
