    Hi ,

We have a prod. database that we export and import into another database daily. This is taking a lot of time. Can we copy the datafile of prod and replace the datafile of the target db with the copy of prod. I'm thinking herte something similar to restoring a db from a physical backup. Would we need the control file as well (but the db names are diff).

    Thanks in Advance,

Can't do it. You're talking about two different databases. A better solution would be to clone the files you need (Datafiles, rbs data files, system ts) and set them up in their own seperate database (Search for "clone" on this forum).

    Transportable tablespaces might help you...

I'm using 7.3.4 so I cannot export the tablespaces. Can I use incremental export/import for a specific user schema.

    review your methodoloy for import/export.

Are you exporting only the app users or doing a full export?

Also, are you creating the indexes after the import or are you simply allowing oracle to create them as part of the import?
