Hi,
I am currently involved in evaluation project of vendor's
software for DBAs. The major point of research is to find the best product for DB diagnostic and tuning and to choose right product for company.
Does anybody have any template or maybe spreadsheet for software functionality analysis?
I am looking for any advise.
Thanks a lot.

Thank you for great advises. I doubt that I will gain additional knowledge preparing for Oracle Certification exam, but I don't have any doubts now that my sense of humor will be improved tremendously.
Actually, my question was not about which products to evaluate but how to present final decision to management.
Thank you guys anyway.

This depends very much on the working "style" of your company. Some are used to standup presentations with paper flip charts, others with PowerPoint.
Others like to read spreadsheets or T-charts or printed comparisons like you find in magazines when they compare cars, computers, appliances, etc.
Think about your audience and what they seem to respond to.

Consider the following:
1. Product
2. Cost
3. Features
4. customer satisfaction
5. Support features
6. Support cost
7. Your personal opinion
8. ...

Prior to Oracle 9i, I preferred dBArtisan by Embarcadaro(sp?).
Now with 9i, I feel that OEM has improved so much that I like it and is the only thing I now use. I miss some DDL functions from dBArtison but probably not worth the money buying just for that.
