    Hi all:

I installed 8.17 and 9.02 on the same box under different O-H. However, when I tried to connect to the 9i DB using 8i SQL*Plus, I get the "TNS.... error". I got the same error when trying to connect to the 8i DB using 9i SQL*Plus. How do I get around this problem. Any help/advice will be much appreciated.

    TIA

    John

    My bad:

Both are installed on a W2K server with 512 RAM and with plenty of HD space.

Got it figured by adding a local net service name using 9i's Net Configuration Assistant. I can now connect to the 8i DB using 9i SQL*Plus.

Thanks for all the help though.

which Listener did you use ???? Make sure you add the connect string of each database to both TNSnames.
