    Hi ,

most of u might be aware that in UK ,
during summer and winter resons , time is changed by by 1 hour .
could anybody tell me the impact of changing the server time in the above cases .
do we need to take any special precaution during this time ( like backup, applying reset logs etc... )
we are backing up using RMAN with catalog in tapes .
catalog is in different server .

Time changing is very common in US.
You need to aware the consequences when time gets changed.
1 Your cron or any other scheduled jobs will run 2 times when the time is set backwards, example 2 am to 1 am, if the job is scheduled to run between 1 and 2 am.
2 Your cron will not run because you move the time by 1 hr ( at 1 am , it is changed to 2 am.)

oracle uses the system change number (scn) for recovery
so changing the clock will not affect your backups
unless you need to do point in time recovery based on time

    Thanx .

my concern was do i need to take a full 1 hour outage .

    situation is
i have around 10 databases . i have not seen some of the tables structure . if any of the table is having internal audit build , columns like ( createdby , updatedby , deletedby , modifiedby ) etc.. then timestamp might be wrongly recorded or overwrite during any transaction .

i am looking for a generic plan which can be applied for any database inspite of such circumstances .

    hope i am clear .
