Hi,
We have a production setup with Oracle,Informix and
DBA databases.I am trying to figure what DBA
activities can be done remotely and what has to be done
only at the console.I am told that Oracle installation can
only be done at the console. What are the other activities that can be done only at the console..What about VPN access/telnet?
Thanks in advance..

You can do virtually anything if you have telnet access.

That's a myth ! You can do an Oracle installation using telnet.

Actually, you can do the remote install without TELNET if your Xwindows software is appropriate. Start the install on the console, but set the workstation as the Xwindows display.
It is probably not worth worrying about though. With 9i2 taking 3 CD's, you might as well be at the console to do the changes.

if u have a workstation at ur end then u can just place the dump of all the cd's in different directories and proceed with installation without being at the console.
