    Hi,

Why so much of space is allocated to banners and other links ...

    When I open http://www.dbasupport.com/forums/new...read&forumid=1

I hardly able to see max 4 posts... and have to scroll ...

Its not good interface.. and banners are most disturbing...

Are banners getting more space on page because they are paying good? ;-)

I totally agree with Sameer, it's absolutly ridiculous to have to scroll half way down a page to get to the content your interested in. Surely the banner size could be reduced to a sensible size.

Even maximised the banners, logos, buttons, etc, etc take up near 50% of the screen space!

Realize that just like with television, these advertisements allow us to make this site available to the community. We'll certainly keep your thoughts in mind, and appreciate you taking the time to let us know your concerns.

The size of the banners doesn't bother me. but the I use 1280x1024 resolution. The higher the res the less realestate dedicated to banners.

    sclark,

While I appreciate that you have to use advertising to survive the point is that these adverts should not be so obtrusive that they distract the content of the page. In the previous incarnation of this site you had advertising but it was subtle and therefore made the site easy to navigate and use.

And why does the site logo banner have to occupy so much space now?

I (like many) really like this site and find it extremely useful but I feel you will soon find users opting for other sites which offer a more focused look and feel rather than the billboard approach. Will your advertisers still be so keen for huge banners then?

Just my opinion (and judging by some of the comments, the feeling of many)

BTW gandolf989 - I also use the same resolution and still find the use of space excessive.

jovery, we appreciate your feedback on the new layout and completely understand your frustration -- the last thing we want users to feel is that we're taking a billboard approach with the new layout.

While we can't change the advertising banner at the top of the screen, we are working on possibly reducing the site logo banner in order to free up more space. We're hoping to be able to introduce these positive changes shortly.
