    Question

    Hi,

I have installed oracle 8.1.7 on a brand new machine (win2k) and I was trying to create a database by using the database configuration assistant. After I go through the wizard, it begins to create the database but very quickly I get a ora-03113 end of file on communication channel error. I think it happened when the wizard was just beginning to create datafiles. Can anyone help me please?

    Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem and here was the workaround suggested by Oracle:

"The init.ora for your new DB may have the parameter remote_login_passwordfile=exclusive requiring a password file that has not yet been created

Using the database assistant choose the option to save your db creation. This will save the options you choose to script. Before running the scripts to create the database, either remove remote_login_passwordfile=exclusive from the init.ora, or edit the batch file so that the oradim line has the -intpwd parameter ex: D:\Oracle\Ora81\bin\oradim -new -sid SD03 -intpwd ORACLE -startmode manual -pfile D:\Oracle\admin\sd03\pfile\init.ora"

Otherwise there is a good generic page for resolving ORA-3113 errors

    Hope that helps
