    Hi ,

What is the CHARACTER SET of the database where from the export has been taken?

And what is the character set of ur current database ?

Tell me that first. Then I will tell u what to do next.

    Thanks

    Hello

I hope , the O/S in ur export server is different than import server.

U r using Solaris Server. Right? But do u know what is the O/S? is it Chinese ?

For example if my export server is JAPANESE O/S and my local database is english O/S then you will face this type of problem.

Is that same? or different as I mentioned.

    Thanks

    Thank You Summit.

Basically I am using SunOs Server. My Source(EXP) and target (IMP) database's are on the same BOX. And My NLS_CHARCTER_SET is UTF8.

I hope this information helps you to analyze the problem.

    Thanks In Advance.

I get export from a database with Japanese char set. Just before doing the import, I do:
    export NLS_LANG="AMERICAN_AMERICA.JA16SJIS"

Try all these possibilities. Check ur export log file and see what is specified before doing the export.

    Thanks In Advance

    My understanding is:
    1) you made dump file of UTF8 database with NLS_LANG= ...
    UTF8
    2) you loaded dump file to UTF8 database with NLSLANG= ... UTF8
    3) then you tryed to make s select from the same Solaris Box and got ????.
That is correct result in that case.

    Question:
    1) Before making query did you change your NLS_LANG to be Chanese?
It must be the same character set Chinese records were created with.
    2) Does your Solaris BOx has Chinese character set installed?
    Best wishes!
    Dmitri
