Thread: stats on index

    Hi
    can some one please explain me that if i add a new index on a existing table and do not analyze the table then will oracle use that index properly or not in cost based optimizer.

    The datatabase version is 7.3.4.4 .Please also tell me what will be the effect in 8i.

    My gut tells me no, run an explain on it and prove me wrong.

    If the table has stats on it the CBO may still pick an index that does not have stats. Even so, the CBO relies on stats to make it's judgement. You should always gather stats for all indexes and tables in your schema. If in doubt redo the stats.
