Hi,
We are planning to move 8.1.7 database from Solaris 2.6 to 2.8. The 2.8 Solaris is installed in another Machine.
What is the easiest way.?

Oracle817 on 2.8 should recognize all the oracle files (init.ora, controlfiles, redo log files, data files) from 2.6 if the OS is configured similar to 2.6 (32 -bit not 64-bit) and filesystem layout is same as before(If not you might need to recreate the controlfile). So, cold backup would be sufficient.
You can test this, if you want by recreating the controlfile with system, rbs, redologs, init.ora and couple of datafiles(not all of the datafiles).

Good input.
But what about the Oracle software, binaries etc..? It needs to be copied from old machine (here Solaris 2.6 ) to the new machine (here Solaris 2.8) OR we need to reinstall the Oracle from CD in new machine...?

you would have to relink the software
look $ORACLE_HOME/bin/relink

I would advise you reinstall software from CDs and create a test database as part of install and then delete the instance with dbconfig asst. (test database is not needed as such, just to make sure are the net8 components are operational.
Don't copy the oracle software from 2.6 to 2.8.

You could copy all necesary filesystems from the old box to the new one and reload pw-syscall.
