    HI FOLKS,
    What is the difference b/n checkpoint SCN and checkpoint counter

    Checkpoint counter gets updated even when the checkpoint info in the file header is frozen, during a hot backup.
    So for instance if you replace a current datafile with a recent backup, oracle will yell at you.
    That's the practical aspect.
    for def'n check doc's.

    Thanx tarry......

    Does differnt datafiles have different checkpoint counters ?

    Or should all be in sync....

    Yes

    Hi ,

    the all datafile should be sync excuding read only tablespce .
