Hi,
I have installed Oracle8.1.7 on Sun(Intel) OS . While installation, during database creation I had some problem with memory(I did not face any problem till database creation started . Problem started only after the creation of instance ). I have ignored that and continued with installation .
After installation I have rebooted the system. After bringing up the sytem I have tried to startup nomount stage so that I can create database. But I got following errors
ORA-27123 Unable to attach to shared memory segment
Intel SVR4 Unix Error : 24 : Too many open files
After that I have tried to connect using SQLPLUS I got following error
ORA-27101 : Shared Memory realm does not exist
intel SVR4 Unix error : 2 : no such file or directory
Please suggest a solution for this

Your kernal parameters (/etc/system) need to be modified. Re-read the install manual. On a small system, I start with:
Code:
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=532870192
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=1024
set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=256
set semsys:seminfo_semmap=100
set semsys:seminfo_semmni=100
set semsys:seminfo_semmnu=300
set semsys:seminfo_semmsl=250
set semsys:seminfo_semopm=100
set semsys:seminfo_semume=100
set semsys:seminfo_semvmx=32767
set semsys:seminfo_semmns=2000

Hi,
Just tune the kernel(/etc/system) as logged in root
and reboot the system
with b -r
cheers
