I have data in flat files which have been extracted from the mainframe and have to be loaded into an oracle8i db.

However the mainframe datatypes are slightly different from oracle & i'm wondering how this will affect the actual data.

These are the datatypes as defined on the mainframe:-
Field Type - Internal Numeric Type
    1) Unsigned - Zoned
    2) Date - Zoned
    3) Numeric - Packed

What will be the oracle equivalents for these datatypes?

If you have data in flat files then you already have a character representations of all those types.
Now you should simply create table with number, date, number fields and SQL Load this data in.
