    hi all,
does the hardware configuration of the standby database have to be the same as the hardware configuration of the primary database? (i.e, same memory, same no of processors, same storage,.....)

i'd be grateful if anyone could provide me with a document that discusses how to manage a standby database.

    Regards.

    No, you need not.
Just the same platform, like sun to sun ,aix to aix, linux to linux.
You'd better use the same version os, like solaris 7-solaris7, and the exact oracle version.

Oracle document: standby concept and administration is good enough for your learn and daily maintain. It can be download from otn.oracle.com.

If you are using oracle9 release 2, logical standby database allow you to put your production on sun and standby on Linux.
