    Angry

    I am trying to install Oracle EE 8.1.7 on my NT-4, dual Pentium 3 box and the universal installer always hangs at 19%.

    When OUI hangs, the status message on the installer window says that its installing 'Oracle Provider for OLE DB 8.1.7.0.0'
    and that its copying RefCur.vbp.

    The installation log in C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\logs\installActions.log has the following final entry:

    DllGroup = false

    Calling action w32OcxRegActions1.7.1.5.0 RegisterOCX
    OcxPath = G:\oracle\ora81\bin\OraOLEDB.DLL
    WorkingDir = G:\oracle\ora81\bin

    The oraInstall.err file is empty.

    Hi,
    The following is the workaround that should resolve this problem:

    A) Install using the Custom Install type, select all products you wish to
    install, making sure you deselect ODBC and Oracle Provider for OLE DB.

    This should allow you to successfully complete the installation.

    If you wish to install ODBC and/or Oracle Provider for OLE DB, please follow
    item B.

    B) Install using the Custom install type. Select for installation the problem
    components, ODBC and/or Oracle Provider for OLE DB, only.
    De-select all other components.

    In some cases, you must clean up the Oracle DSN or else the error will continue to occur. Instructions:

    Start the ODBC administrator applet, if installed, and remove any Oracle DSN definitions.

    Thanks for the reply - we had discovered this workaround on the OTN forum. Do you know the underlying problem that causes this behavior, since we've been able to successfully install on other servers from the same CD?

    Thanks much!
