Newbie install and setup. What are I and AS?

Hi, I've just learned a few Oracle SQL Plus commands, Forms,
and PL/SQL. But the instructor never taught how to install and setup Oracle.

First, Can I install Oracle Database for standalone use( no network)? Is it Server/Client environment only?

Second, What are i and AS stand for? Ex. 8i,9i, 9iAS,etc.
Which one should I download for standalone use?

Main question: How do I setup Net Configuration for standalone use? I don't have any network on my PC.
Don't have Domain Name and Host string.

i stands for 'internet ready' and AS stands for 'application server'. You have to download oracle8i/oracle9i standard edition/personal edition/enterprize edition depending upon your Operating System

You have to configure listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora. When you create database while installing oracle software, it will configure networking by default. IS this enough ? I was thinking you know little about oracle technology... I didn't know that you are beginner..GOOD LUCK!
