    Hi all,

    can u please explain what is the use of startup force command.

    Startup Force aborts the running instance before performing a normal startup.

    Hi,

    The command startup force is :

    shutdown abort + startup normal

    In some cases wehn database has been shutdown normal and hangs due to sessions or still running PL/SQL's even shutdown aborts sometimes could not help;

    So the last command to force a startup ( before switching the server off ) and the possiblity to connect is startup force.

    Don't use startup force to just restart an instance, do it when you can't shut down a db for whatever reason.
    Here instance recovery will be required, don't do it as if it were an normal operation!
