    hi folks,
    what is the benefit of assigning a password to a role

    When a group of users have the same login for the db, selected users among this group can enable a role using SET ROLE and provide a password to enable it.

    So, other users will not be able to use SET ROLE effectively as they need the password to enable the role.

    Hi sonia

    so that only users who are granted this role and have a password can benifit form the priveliges granted to this role...

    passsword i guess provide additional layer of security..

    Did i understand your question rightly ? because somehow i feel my answer is obvious isnt it ;-D
