Hi,
I have the oracle 8.1.7 version of database installed. As some of the RMAN features don't work on this and requires the Enterprise editon, I am thinking of upgrading the database to 8.1.7 Enterprise edition.
I have few question:
How can I upgrade the db from 8.1.7 to 8.1.7 enterprise edition.
Doing so, will there be any problems to the data in the database.
Is both the datachanges and oracle binary changes required.
Is there a upgrade patch or something to elevate my db from 8.1.7 to 8.1.7 enterprise edition.

I meant 8.1.7 standard to 8.1.7 enterprise edition
-
just a confirmation my existing version is
SQL> select * from v$version;
BANNER
----------------------------------------------------------------
Oracle8i Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production
PL/SQL Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production
CORE 8.1.7.0.0 Production
TNS for Solaris: Version 8.1.7.0.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 3.4.1.0.0 - Production
I ASSUME IT IS STANDARD - IS THAT?

You can use your Oracle Universal Installer to do several things, some of them being seeing what you have installed and upgrading software as an amininstrative action. Start the OUI that is present with your installation, click on installed products, drill down the tree list to your Oracle Home location, expand that, and you will see what you have - standard or enterprise.

So I looks like it's a standard edition. So for upgrading to EE, should I recreate the database or is there any upgrade from standart to enterprise edition avaiable on the Installer.
