    Hi All

    Trying to upgrade database from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7.4 by
    using ODMA.
    But getting the following error message
    ORA-010708:failure in processing system parameters
    I have included the following parameters in init.ora
    compatible = 8.1.7
    optimizer_features_enable = 8.1.7
    _new_initial_join_orders = TRUE
    _sqlexec_progression_cost = 0
    optimizer_max_permutations = 2000
    _system_trig_enabled = FALSE

    and even checked the alert file for the obsolete parameters
    but of no help.

    Would appreciate if you guys can help me out with this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Can you try changing compatible parametrs to 8.1.5( lower version than 8.1.6). Havn't encountered this myself, but you can give it a try.

    I wonder why you have those _* parameters

    Try start 8.1.7 database from sqlplus it will tell you what parameters is wrong in prompt

    A document exists on metalink which explains how to upgrade from 8.1.6 to a patch level of 8.1.7.

    Otherwise, you first have to do the upgrade from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7 first, and afterwards apply the patch to level 8.1.7.4.

    Hope this helps

    http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/...OT&id=188061.1

    We are still on ora8173 cause of lower oracle server versions.
