    Dear friends,
    I installed Oracle 8i on sun .When database creation is in progress I am getting error Otacle not avaialble.So I canceled and try to start on nomount stage but when I am giving command startup nomount erro is coming
    ORA-03113 End of file comunication channel.
    I have set etc/systemfile and also .profile.
    Please suggest me what to do for short out this problem

    Do not make a database while installing the Oracle software , after installing the Oracle engine restart the server machine , create and start listener ( in case you do not have one ) , invoke dbca in case you have one or use server manager or sql+.

    ORA-03113 indicates that you may have a conflict with shared momory realim , so open a shell and type ipcs , you will get a list of shared memory components , using ipcrm remove all oracle hanging shared memory then start the sql+ from another shell session , it will work I guess
