    Talking

    Hi guys,
I have 10 partitions in 10 different tablespaces. Only the current partition is being loaded.
I tried to put the tablespace containing the oldest partition into read only mode but it's taking a long time(45 minutes). So I cancelled the operations. I can swear that no object in that particular tablespace is being loader, deleted, updated, etc, so I don't understand why changing the tablespace to read only is taking a long time.

    Any idea what's happening?

read only will take place only if there is no transactions in your database

Pando, what do you mean by that? There is no such requirenment! Further more, there can even be active transactions on the segments of that particular tablespace when you put it in read only mode. The active transactions will be able to complete, but any new transactions on that tablespace will be prevented.

The only restriction are that there must be no active rollback segment in that tablespace and that tablespace is not in backup mode.
