I want change the location of the tnsnames.ora file on our network to a share drive so that everyone can use the same one. I read that there is a TNS_ADMIN entry in the registry but I can't find it. How do I set this up. I want SQLPLus to look for the TNSNAMES.ORA file on my share drive by default. Thanks.

On NT?
right-click My Computer > Environment and set a system or user variable called TNS_ADMIN. This should point to the shared directory where you intend to place the network admin files (tnsname.ora, sqlnet.ora). No need to mess with the registry.

It didn't work
I added the system variable but when I move it from where it is to the new directory it doesn't find the file.

Try it as a user variable (don't know how your network is set up), but I guarantee you it works.

It Works
Sorry. I checked my directory and it was spelled wrong. Thanks for your help.
