RMAN need cold backup

Hi guys,


I just want to make sure of this. I am doing Veritas NetBackup installation with RMAN for one client. Veritas include a cold database backup in one of its scripts.

I am just wondering whether I still need to perform cold backup ever (from the very start) instead of RMAN full DB backup only. From what I know this thing is not necessary but,well, just to play safe.

Hi,
The cold back is always a better option in case of having problem with hot backup. Yes, the disadvantage is that wiht cold backup you can only get the files until the time in which u did the backup, rather than the point of failure.
But I would always opt from cold backup, even if you take hot backup always....
