Thread: ******SHUT DOWN TOO LONG*******

    I had to shut down the db .
    I did immediate shut down not abort but it takes too long more that 30 minutes.
    The messg in the alert:
    SHUTDOWN: waiting for active calls to complete

    Please advise

    Since you didn't specify your version, I'll assume Oracle 8.1.7.4 on Solaris.

    Shutdown Immediate will wait until all the transactions are rolled back. May be being locked up.

    Now you may wish to use ABORT option...

    Hi in that type of situations....
    do...
    1.shutdown abort
    2.startup restrict
    3.shutdown [normal]
    that way ur purpose is solved...
    note:You have to follow the steps 1,2 and 3..and you know reason for those steps too?..

    before you abort you better do checkpoint or switch log
