after upgrading Oracle binaries,do i really need to run Catalog/Catproc.sql on databa

Hi,

I am just curious, after upgrading my Oracle from say 8.0.6 to 8.0.6.3 ,
do I really have to bring up my database and run the catalog and catproc.sql on my database??

Hi,
You can easily run catalog.sql and catproc.sql after upgrading from Oracle 8.0.6 to Oracle 8.0.6.3 as it will again recreate the data-dictionary and add the plsql functionality

It's totally dependent on the type of patch. Some changes in the executables may require new or modified columns in the data dictionary. If you don't run these scripts you're screwed.

Basically, if the patch instructions say you should then I'd do it. Failure to follow installation/upgrade instructions leaves your database in an unsupportable state. This doesn't mean it won't work, just that Oracle can refuse to support your installation under the T&Cs of your Oracle license.
