Oracle 9.0.1.3.0 on (COMPAQ/HP UNIX !!)
I have set the STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT=AUTO
Some of the doc. says that I do not need to recreate the control file/or copy/remove the physical file to the Standby database, if I create/drop a new tablespace on the Primary...
...but in other places, it says that I do need to take some manual steps in the Standby database !
This is part of 9i Doc:
"You need to refresh the standby database control file whenever you:
-Rename a datafile
-Delete a datafile
-Create a temporary tablespace
-Drop a tablespace..."
So, in my testing, I was successfully able to create/drop tablespaces on Primary without doing anything on the Standby...and walah...the datafiles are created/removed on the Standby.
Since the Doc. talks about taking many manual steps on Standby, but does not mention that it needs to be done only if
STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT is not set to AUTO, I thought I should run it past some gurus.
THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE, right ???

That is good to know. Can you please also tell, whether you are using Oracle OMF feature to achieve this.

No, we are not using OMF, but I do use:
drop tablespace .... including contents and datafiles;
