    Hi,

I was using a third party tool to drop tables from a tablespace.
When I confirmed the action, I noticed, too late, that the WHOLE TABLESPACE
    was dropped.

Since this is a relatively small database, with only 4 users, we didn't have backup procedures
(WE WILL AS OF NOW!!!!!). We did manual backups once in a while, the latest one being
a few months ago. How can I restore the database as best as I can??

Can I use the REDO logs? How do I do this??

Please, detailed steps as I am not really a DBA.

    Thanks.

several questions need to be answered!!!!

What Oracle version are you running on ???

The latest backup you had, what kind of backup is that ??? You can't use your redo log to recover your table when you dropped.

    Oracle 8.1.7

Last backup was a full export end of December.

If you have cold or hot backup of your database and all archived redo logs since your last backup than you can restore your database from the backup on a different server and on the same server with the different name and roll forward up to the point where tablespace was dropped. Please state what kind of backup you have and whether you have all archived redo logs.

One, who thinks that the other one who thinks that know and does not know, does not know either!

what all files did u lose in that tablespace/r u in archivelog mode or noarchive logmode?
then we can think up a strategy. The Q is to see how much of of data is going to be lost forver(meaning the period between end dec and now!)

If you have the full export in Dec , you can recover that table but all of the data from DEc to now will be lost.

use import utility to import your table and the command as follow:

    IMP USERNAME/PASSWWORD FILE=FILENAME.DMP LOG=RECOVER.LOG TABLES=THE TABLE WAS LOST

    hope this will help

I am not running in ARCHIVELOG mode.
I have some REDO log files.

..........AH! I MIGHT BE A LUCKY MAN

It seems there is a .dmp file that was created this morning (at the fatal time).
Must have been done by the software, or Oracle, or GOD !!!!

I will be recreating the database from this export file and hope it works.
