    Hi there,

We are on Oracle 8i on Windows NT platform.

Until now, we are using VERITAS for cold and hot backup of all our NT based Oracle databases.

Now, we are in process of switching to RMAN for the total backup and recovery requirements. We have already completed testing the RMAN backup and recovery on the hard disk.

We don't know how to take backup on to the tape from RMAN.

Can someone tell me step by step what exactly I need to do to take the RMAN backup directly on to the Tape media?

    Thanks in Adv...

Instead of opening a channel on disk, you open a channel on sbt_tape.

    Jeff,

    OK. I forgot that advise.

Do I need third party software for taking RMAN backup directly on to the tape?

We have Veritas Backup Exec but not Netbackup. This is my main question.

    Thanks.

With Netbackup, you need an additional piece of software. I'm not sure with BackupExec.

    See http://seer.support.veritas.com//docs/192365.htm for more confusion.
