    Can anyone give an idea on how to implement a web-based client installation for Oracle 8.1.7? That, or point me in the direction of some documentation on how to get it going.

    I'm not sure how to tell you to do a web based install. However, there is a product called WinBatch that will allow you to create a silent install of Oracle Client among other things. It is a very powerfull scripting language. I am using it to create a nearly silent upgrade of Oracle 7.3.4, 8.0, 8i to Oracle 8.1.7. This might suit your needs. It also has web plugins. I'm not sure what they can do since I haven't used them.
