Thread: Urgent Help required on installing Oracle client on Unix(solaris)

    Hi,
    I need to install a oracle client (8.1.7) on one of the solaris boxes,which does not have any oracle installations.
    Can anybody give me the steps to install client for oracle 8.1.7 on unix.

    Use oracle installer. Choose client only instead of full database.

    yes..
    No much diff between oracle software installation and this client.Only diff is choose client only..( type??????).
    you are okay.
    We understand you have set env variable before installation for oracle_home....

    How about the user account, and what should be the user privilages.

    Could you please give me steps starting from mounting the cd
    if possible

    Hope you are not kidding...
    Here is the steps...
    1.Create unix account (mostly userracle,Group id 500(DBA))
    2.set env variable ORACLE_HOME (your home location),ORACLE_TERM,ORACLE_BASE...etc
    insert cd...
    3.cd /cdrom
    4.cd oracle8i
    5../runInstaller
    you will get GUI...(if u r running from console) otherwise
    setenv DISPLAY (your machine ip address)
    6.Welcome screen...next
    7.File locations....Give your home location where you need software to install.....next
    8.I think it will ask for unix group..DBA next
    9.Type....software..check client next
    10.choose the list...required.
    11.install.
    There you go...
