    Hi

I have multiplexed my redo logs , 2 members in 2 groups on 2 seperate disk drives and am getting Archives files like this .

    ARCH0001_0000009684.ARC;1
    10240 8-APR-2002 05:01:54.30
    ARCH0001_0000009685.ARC;1
    10240 8-APR-2002 05:02:03.31

    ARCH0001_0000009686.ARC;1
    10240 8-APR-2002 07:02:02.63
    ARCH0001_0000009687.ARC;1
    10240 8-APR-2002 07:02:20.82

They are 5 M each and within 30 seconds of each other , is this because of 2 members in a group , Please clarify

    No.

Archive logs are written when a log is switched. Only one copy of the mirrored redo's is made to the archive log.

It doesn't take long to fill a 5 meg redo-log. 30 seconds is probably right. You've got a transaction that needed that much.

    Thanks Man !

    Thanks !

That cleared my doubts !! I have this kind of thing all through my archive destination . do u think It is recommended to increase log size or let it be the way it is .

PS: I do NOT have any errors regarding log file or checkpoint in my log file

    Thanks once again

Your redo/archived log size really depends on your transaction and recovery needs.

If you have small files and alot of transactions you'll dump a bunch of archived log files. That'll make recovery a royal pain in the butt. Plus all the switching has some overhead.

Make them too big, and you'll never get one archived.

Our log files are 100mb. In our environment, recovery goes faster when there's only a few files.
