Thread: New gigabit NIC causing heartache

  1. #1

    Post

I just put a new 3com gigabit NIC card into my server, Win 2k server and Oracle 8.1.6.

I kept all the IP settings the same but the database will not start. If I put the old card back in it starts up fine.

Does the DB bond itself to the NIC MAC address or something? Must I run a utility to reinitilize the DB with the new NIC?

Sometimes with 3com NICs need execute setup in DOS mode before use its in Win environment.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by execute setup in DOS... it is a win 2k server and 3com says it fully supports the OS... the nic card itself works flawlessly, but when I take out the second (and originally) NIC the database doesn't seem to be able to resolve itself on startup...
