Thread: Exclusive Locks

    There is bunch of ROW EXCLUSIVE lock happens in our PROD Database every seconds and then disppear and then show again for different tables when I monitor DB. Can you explain to me what is this lock exactly and is it dangerous or how usually we can fix it?

    ROW SHARE MODE

    : Automatically acquired by SELECT...FOR UPDATE. While it is a shared lock, may be upgraded later to a ROW EXCLUSIVE lock.

    Conflicts with EXCLUSIVE and ACCESS EXCLUSIVE lock modes.

    ROW EXCLUSIVE MODE

    : Automatically acquired by UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT statements.

    Conflicts with SHARE, SHARE ROW EXCLUSIVE, EXCLUSIVE and ACCESS EXCLUSIVE modes.

    So this is natural , but do check on transaction lock for contention for ITLs and wait for
    commit or rollback.
